-4 Inset Handle Basket-
In this class students basketry skills they have learned previously will be practiced, deepened and improved. This four inset handle basket is made using the technique of twining and has a substantial rolled border. Six sizes of round reed are used through out the basket. In addition the round reed has been dyed black and brown adding to the over all visual interest. Each step of the basket will be demonstrated and a lot of hands on instruction is given to students. Attention to hand placement, tension and shaping will be focused on during the class. The selection, preparation of materials and finishing techniques for basketry projects will be discussed as well.
This basket is a scaled down version of a large basket I make. I wanted to keep a lot of the details that are present in my large work however offer something that is possible for basketry students to make in a multiple day class. Students signing up for the class must have some experience with twining and know hand strength is a bonus. This is a rewarding and challenging intermediate level class suitable for weavers with experience.
The finished basket measures 6" tall X 20" diameter.
